Beroun - A long-delayed reconstruction of the area in front of the Hvězda department store in Beroun will begin. The plans include paving, installation of lighting, benches, and fountains, as well as the establishment of infrastructure for social and cultural events. The project will also involve gardening work. The reconstruction will cost almost 27 million crowns and will last until spring next year, said Deputy Mayor Michal Mišina (for ANO) to reporters today.
The city has signed a contract with the company Metrostav, and the first workers will appear in front of Hvězda after Easter. According to Mišina, it will be necessary to maintain corridors for pedestrians so that people can pass through the construction site. The city hall will seek to obtain a grant from the EU to cover most of the costs. According to Mišina, it is also possible to apply for funds for the already commenced project.
The area in front of Hvězda will be divided into several parts. In front of the Penny department store, there will be a solid surface, and several trees with seating will be planted there. Stalls for a smaller Christmas market could also be created there.
In another part, a stage and a viewing area are planned. Towards the branch of the city library, a grassy area will connect to the space, where sculptures are to be placed that could serve, for example, as climbing structures for children or seating. The area will continue with trees, which will also be planted along the entire Míru Street. The sidewalk in front of Hvězda will also be widened, with an added grassy strip.
The Hvězda complex was originally designed as a cultural house for the Large Housing Estate. Later, it was transformed into a shopping center.
