Brno - A new primary school will be built in Brno-Žebětín by the end of the year. It will cost over 200 million crowns. Žebětín desperately needs the school. Currently, children are learning in three different locations. This was stated today by the deputy mayor of the district, Václav Kříž (KDU-ČSL). In addition to the school, the investment will also include the construction of a modern multipurpose gym. Of the planned investment of 220 million crowns, the gym alone will cost 156 million, according to Kříž. Construction of the Open Primary School is expected to start in the coming weeks, according to Kříž. Žebětín is building a school for grades one to five; older children currently take a bus to elementary schools located several kilometers away. Today, the primary school for the lower grades in Žebětín operates in three buildings. Four classes are located on Křivánková Square, three classes on Kohoutovická Street, and another class is in a Catholic house, where children also go to gym class. Another building serves as a dining area. According to Kříž, children must move between the various locations, which is unsustainable. Žebětín has long been striving for the construction of a new school building since the 1990s. The land was being purchased for this construction even before World War II. A fundraising campaign for the school was held among the locals.
