According to Mayor Vít Beran (KDU-ČSL), the new school is a unique building.
Brno - A new elementary school for 300 children was officially opened yesterday in Brno - Žebětín. The building, costing 143 million crowns, will replace the existing school, which no longer met capacity or hygiene standards. The campus includes a new gymnasium and cafeteria, which will also serve the nearby kindergarten, said Pavel Žára, spokesman for the Brno city hall, to ČTK. The school was partially financed by the Brno city administration, with 94 million crowns obtained from the EU. Construction began in January 2011. "This is a unique building; it is rare to build a completely new elementary school from scratch. The building is modernly equipped and has all the necessary facilities," said the mayor of the Žebětín district, Vít Beran (KDU-ČSL). Currently, there are 66 elementary schools in Brno. In the 2011/2012 school year, they were attended by 24,094 students. Last year, 3,252 students started in the first grades, and for the current school year, the expectation is 3,600 students.
