In Budějovice, a shopping center with a rooftop parking lot will be built

Ceske Budejovice - A new shopping center with a rooftop parking lot is expected to be built in the center of Ceske Budejovice within three years. Its architectural design is from Atelier 8000, which also designed the shopping center Mercury in Ceske Budejovice, where a bus station is located on the roof. The new multifunctional building IGY 2 on Prague Street will be connected to the shopping center IGY 1 via two footbridges across Pekarenska Street.      The multifunctional building IGY 2 will rise on the site of a telecommunications building and adjacent land covering an area of over 6000 square meters. The building will have five above-ground floors, three of which will be commercial. The fourth floor, along with the roof, will serve as a parking lot. Access will be via a ramp from F. Sramka Street. The parking lot will have a capacity for 188 cars.
     The plot is situated in the former heart of old Budějovice and has undergone a complicated construction evolution to its current heterogeneous state. The construction will have to make way for the former service telecommunications building built in the late 1980s. The three-story building is now mostly abandoned, with a Good Canteen located on the ground floor. The expected daily attendance of the new center is 7500 people. A total of 213 new jobs should be created. Construction is planned to begin in the second half of 2013, and it should be completed two years later.
     The commercial community center IGY 1 was created at a cost of 750 million CZK between 2003 and 2004. According to the investor of the IGY 2 construction - Czech Property Investments, a.s., the smaller IGY 2 is estimated to cost over half a billion crowns.
