VALAŠSKÉ MEZIŘÍČÍ - A new commercial center will be built in Valašské Meziříčí, which a private investor will construct on municipal land next to the bus station. The local company IVM Delta plans to build a shopping center for the Billa chain and Intersport, a market, and parking for 52 vehicles. The municipal office supported the project, said city spokesman Josef Beneš. "This is an opportunity to integrate the local gap into the surrounding development while also offering people cultivated retail spaces," stated the author of the zoning plan, architect Zdeněk Trefil. According to him, the planned construction would remove inappropriate temporary stalls in the market located under the road overpass and its immediate vicinity. However, Deputy Mayor Bohdan Mikušek rejected this explanation. He stated that the embankment of the Rožnovská Bečva is a very valuable area located in the city center. "Its final form should be decided only after the bus station is relocated to the area of the former sawmill opposite the railway station," he said. A few years ago, the Lidl chain wanted to build a large retail store at the bus station site. However, residents of nearby houses did not agree with this plan at the time. They were particularly concerned about the potential increase in traffic and the resulting risk of environmental degradation. "They have no objections to our solution. The Czech Union for Nature Conservation confirmed this in writing, and I have only received verbal consent from the chairman of the civic association Za Krásno krásnější so far," said IVM Delta manager Vít Mackovík. The councilors approved the construction of the center at their last meeting. They adopted a resolution recommending that the city council negotiate with the company about leasing the land needed to implement its project. A month ago, however, the Valašské Meziříčí councilors rejected the construction of a discount store on Vsetínská and Kálalova streets. Due to concerns about traffic load and reduction of greenery, they refused to sell the land to the private company. The development company requested the sale of municipal land totaling 5,600 square meters. Next to the store, a parking lot for 80 cars intended for visitors to the nearby hospital would also be created.
