Karviná – Revitalization of the area near the Prior department store has begun in Karviná. After the modifications, there will be new sidewalks, furniture, and new greenery. The cost will be 18 million crowns. This was stated today by spokesperson of the Karviná city hall, Lukáš Hudeček.

Mayor Jan Wolf (ČSSD) stated that the project to renew the area in front of Prior has been in preparation by the city hall for a year. "This is the entrance gateway to the historical part of the city, which is why we decided to modify this space. There will be extensive revitalization of the entire area around the department store, up to the intersection of 17th November Avenue and Postovní Street. At the request of the citizens, we will build new sidewalks, remove the large concrete area, and people can also look forward to new furniture and greenery,” the mayor said.

Work began in recent days with the removal of diseased trees and bushes, which will be replaced by cherry trees that are already growing along 17th November Avenue. "Work will then continue in March when the concrete area where the statue of Klement Gottwald originally stood will be removed, but since its removal in 1990, the space has remained unused," Hudeček stated.

New sidewalks will also begin to be constructed in March. "The modification of the area will also include the establishment of a resting place with new furniture in the form of benches and footbridges,” Wolf stated.
