Kolín – The planned reconstruction of the large ceremonial hall at the city cemetery in Kolín will start on Monday. Due to the repairs, the dates of the funerals will change. The contract worth 8.3 million crowns should be completed by the end of May next year, said deputy mayor Michal Najbrt (Change for Kolín) to journalists today.

"From Monday, ceremonies will not take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, but on Thursdays and Fridays," said Najbrt. This way, the construction company will be able to work from Saturday to Wednesday. The interior of the large ceremonial hall is expected to be finished by the end of January; the remaining part of the contract, which concerns the spaces around the hall, will be completed in May.

The overall reconstruction of the large ceremonial hall is the final, fifth stage of the renovation at the city cemetery. In the past, repairs have included technical facilities such as offices or the small ceremonial hall for about 30 people. This will now be used as a substitute for the large ceremonial hall, which accommodates about 65 mourners.

The city established a condition in the tender for the company to work at the cemetery from Saturday to Wednesday; Thursdays and Fridays would be reserved for funerals, ensuring that the noise from construction work does not disturb the ceremonies. The opening hours of the cemetery will not be affected by construction work.
