Náchod - In Náchod, in the Běloves district, the completion of the Small Spa has begun. The spa was started by a company two years ago last autumn, but the municipality terminated its cooperation due to non-fulfillment of the contract. The construction was brought to a rough state, spending over six million crowns excluding VAT, and the construction site was handed over to the city at the end of last year. The completion for 12.3 million crowns excluding VAT (14.95 million CZK including VAT) is being provided by the company Průmstav Náchod, and it should be finished by the end of the year. CTK was informed about this by city spokesperson Nina Adlof. The construction is about a year behind the original schedule.

"Construction work began at the end of April. (builders) are also conducting tests, preparing for insulation, finishing the roof coverings, and installing water and heating lines, as well as preparing wells," the spokesperson told CTK. According to her, construction work should be completed within six months of handing over the site.

The previous company, Green Project, built the rough structure including windows, insulation, and the colonnade.

For the project to restore the Small Spa, the municipality received a thirteen million crown grant from the European Czech-Polish cross-border cooperation program. The project involves the restoration and utilization of the historical area of the Small Spa. The centerpiece will be a replica of the interwar villa Komenský, which will feature an exhibition about the history of spa tourism and a café. Nearby, new wells have also been drilled, providing a new source for the spa. A colonnade with a mineral spring brought from the new wells will also be built near the villa.

In Náchod, this marks the first tangible step towards the restoration of spa tourism in the Běloves district after more than 20 years. The spa is expected to treat cardiovascular systems, obesity, and gynecological issues.

The spa area in the Běloves district near the Polish border is divided between the city and a private company. The latter owns the dilapidated former Běloves Spa on the other side of the Metuje River. The area is owned by the company Lázně Běloves, which is owned by the Prague company IDA SpaMed. The city and the private entity signed a memorandum of cooperation for the restoration of spa tourism in Náchod at the end of 2017, but in mid-May, the municipality terminated the contract citing the company's inactivity.

The company planning a new spa area in its part aims to demolish buildings in emergency condition this year and acquire a new investor.

The establishment of the Běloves Spa dates back to the early 19th century, and its operations ceased over 20 years ago.
