Olomouc - Today in Olomouc, in the presence of representatives from the Visegrad Group countries, a unique cultural institution called the Central European Forum was established. It is part of the Museum of Art and will collect art collections from the mid-20th century. However, the first visitors will not enter it for another five years. Its construction is planned in a gap on Denisova Street on land adjacent to the museum. Together with the Minister of Culture Václav Jehlička, the state secretaries of Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary also added their signatures to the founding document. Following them, representatives of local government, the rector, the archbishop, and the director of the Museum of Art also signed. The costs for the construction of the Central European Forum and the reconstruction of the Museum of Art will reach 500 million crowns. This will be funded by the state through money from the European Union. According to the director of the Museum of Art, Pavel Zatloukal, the Central European Forum will collect a synthesis of artistic expressions - visual, musical, film, and theatrical works not only from the Visegrad Group countries but also from Austria and Germany. It will also include an archive of cultural activity from 1945 to 1989. "Of course, we already have the foundations of the collections since we have been dealing with this issue for ten years," Zatloukal told ČTK. He urged the representatives of the other countries to help the newly established forum with its "filling." Zatloukal hopes that the forum will eventually attract more tourists from its founding countries to Olomouc. "It will certainly lead to greater cultural exchange because there is a great interest in modern art in the world, and in Olomouc, it is in symbiosis with an amazing history," Jehlička stated. The Olomouc Museum of Art also includes the Archdiocesan Museum and is the third largest institution of its kind in the Czech Republic. It manages around 200,000 collection items from the fields of painting, sculpture, but also graphics and architecture.
