Olomouc - Palacký University (UP) in Olomouc plans to build five university campuses in the city. The first step towards realizing the project has already been taken, as the city exchanged necessary buildings and land worth more than 50 million crowns. This is reported by today's Olomoucký deník (Deník).
"In the development of the university, we can no longer rely on the state budget, so we are focusing more on obtaining funds from the EU. One of the conditions is land settlement," said UP Vice-Rector Jakub Dürr. Support from the union could reach up to five billion crowns.
The city and the university agreed on the land exchange after a year of negotiations. According to Deputy Mayor Hana Tesařová, the value of the exchange on both sides exceeds the fifty million crown threshold. "Of course, there are differences between the usual price and the administrative price, which is hard to assess," Tesařová stated.
The city will receive from UP, for example, land near the winter stadium, which it wants to convert into a multifunctional hall, or areas near the Morava River where a flood protection dam with a bike path is planned to be built. On the other hand, the university will acquire land from the city hall that, according to Dürr, will enable the completion of the medical faculty from the theoretical institutes towards Hněvotínská street. The city will also relinquish its areas around the research center on Šlechtitelů street and part of the building of the pedagogical faculty and its surroundings.
University campuses are logically closed units combining classrooms, laboratories, and student accommodation of related disciplines. The largest campus will be built by the Faculty of Science at UP. The complex is already under construction in the Envelopa area. Other campuses are expected to be created in urban areas such as Holice and Neředín.
