Litomyšl - In the park of the Litomyšl hospital near the internal department building, a chapel could be built according to the design by Dutch architect Winy Maas. He selected a location where the construction would not disturb the crowns or roots of the growing trees, and created several variations of the structure. They differ in shape, but share a glass roof and the absence of windows, Mayor Daniel Brýdl (Generace 89) told reporters.
"It should definitely not be just for believers, but for everyone, the public, for a kind of calming," Brýdl stated.
The architect discussed his proposals with the public, including local clergy, from whom the original initiative to build the chapel originated. In the next phase, it will be necessary to finalize a suitable construction technology, one option being a 3D printer designed for printing with concrete. The costs and financing of the construction are still unclear.
Maas has already proposed an installation for the new park by Zdeněk Kopal made of mirrored dibond panels measuring ten by four meters with a passage. It reflects the park, the surrounding landscape, the sky, and the city panorama. The town hall is still discussing the placement of decals that would prevent birds from crashing into the wall with the architect.
A provisional chapel already exists in the Litomyšl hospital. It operates for patients and staff in the building of the former dermatology department. It will still be modified according to the design by the architectural firm Kalvoda & Kosnar from Svitavy.
In the past, there was already a chapel on the hospital premises, where mass was held every Saturday. It was abolished in 2007, when a hospital library was established in its place. Until the COVID-19 pandemic, services were held in a designated visitor room, but after the forced break, they could not be resumed on the premises.
