Plzeň - In Plzeň, the rough structure of the new theater building is already standing. After approximately fifteen months since the start, the reinforced concrete structures of the theater itself and its operational part are nearly completed; attention is now shifting to the internal structures, surface finishing, and partitions. Work is also ongoing on electrical installation and water distribution. The construction has so far experienced a several-week delay, but the delay should not affect the start of the season in September 2014, ČTK has learned. "It is moving relatively according to plan; the time deviation is not such that it would jeopardize the completion deadline," said Petr Rund (ODS), the deputy mayor, to ČTK. The delay against the schedule is due to the long winter, but according to the deputy, it can be reduced by certain measures, and it will also depend on how the next winter will be. The completion date is set for April next year, with the next three months designated for trial operations. Plzeň is the first city in the Czech Republic to build a new theater with facilities since 1989. The construction pit began to be dug on May 31 last year. The price of the new building is 818.5 million CZK. It is not yet clear whether the construction will become more expensive. According to Rund, an estimate of some necessary changes is being prepared because standards for theatrical technology have changed. The assessment will be available in September. The construction of the building, divided into an operational and theatrical structure with two halls, an auditorium for 500 spectators, a restaurant, a ballet school, a studio stage, and underground parking, is part of the European Capital of Culture 2015 project. The construction includes a parking garage, for which a pit of approximately eleven meters was excavated. There, the builders are gradually pouring the foundation slab. The contractor for the building, located near the center between Palackého náměstí and Jízdecká street, is the company Hochtief.
