Poděbrady (Nymbursko) - In Poděbrady, the reconstruction of the railway station, costing 12 million crowns, should be completed by the end of August. This renovation includes repairs to the facade, roof, interior, and surrounding area of the building. In September, the reconstruction of the residential building connected to the station building is expected to follow. Both buildings will form a single colorful entity. This was reported to ČTK by the spokesperson of Czech Railways, Petr Štáhlavský.

After the completion of the repairs, the railway station is expected to resemble its original architectural design again. "Finishing work is taking place on the dispatch building, the most visible at the moment is the replacement of tiles, planters will be installed, and primarily cleaning and minor crafts will be carried out," Štáhlavský described the work expected to be completed by the end of the summer holidays.
The repairs are being done with the participation of conservationists, and part of the work also includes creating replicas of some windows and doors.
The dispatch building of the station dates back to 1926. It was built in the functionalist style according to the design of architect Vojtěch Krch. It was the first functionalist building on Czech railways and was formerly considered the most beautiful station building in the republic.
After the repairs to the dispatch building, the adjoining house, where railway employees live, will also be addressed. For 2.5 million crowns, balconies, the roof, and windows will be repaired. The restoration of the facade is also planned. "The residential building will again create a colorful unity with the dispatch building," added Štáhlavský.
Directly in front of the railway station, new bus terminals began operating last year, replacing the original bus stop. The construction was part of a project costing over 30 million crowns, which also connected several dead-end streets in the surrounding area.
