Prague - Today, exhibition spaces will open in Prague for visitors, hosting the 23rd edition of the Designblok showcase. The main program takes place in the former St. Gabriel Monastery next to the Kinský Gardens in Smíchov, named Gabriel Loci, and at the Museum of Applied Arts. Designblok features over 200 Czech and international participants, and visitors can only attend with a prior reservation for a half-day time slot. The theme of this year's showcase is Happiness.
Until October 10, visitors can choose or visit all locations. For a renaissance in craftsmanship, they can go to the Museum of Applied Arts, while designers, companies, and school installations can be found in the Gabriel Loci space. In the nearby Coeur church, they will see fashion shows by art school students. In addition to viewing installations and booths featuring fashion, jewelry, home accessories, or furniture, lectures and workshops are prepared in the heart of Designblok. This is traditionally the area called Designérie, which is always prepared by a creator. This year, it has been transformed into a Do It Yourself workshop by the duo Herrmann & Coufal.
It is located in the cloister around the former paradise garden. Interested individuals can sit there or participate in a workshop to create the Tension lamp, for which the creative duo received the Czech Grand Design award in 2020. Herrmann & Coufal will teach visitors how to make the lamp themselves - according to them, this fulfills the motto of this year's edition, as it brings them true happiness.
Last year, Designblok was significantly limited by measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, and such measures also affect it to a lesser extent this year. Throughout Designblok, the capacity of indoor spaces will be monitored, and visiting the festival is only possible after reserving a time slot, either in the morning or in the afternoon. In addition to a ticket, a mask is a requirement for entry into indoor spaces, as well as proof of completed vaccination against COVID-19, a valid antigen or PCR test, or confirmation of a past infection.
