Humpolec - In the coming days, the construction of an observation tower at the ruins of Orlík Castle in Humpolec will begin. The spiral staircase of the observation point will be located outside the tower itself and will not affect its structural integrity. People should be able to first look out from the top of the tower at the beginning of October. The observation point will enhance the tourist attractiveness of Humpolec and its surroundings, said Mayor Jiří Kučera (ODS) to ČTK.
"People will see, for example, Lipnice Castle, Blaník Mountain, the highest peak of the Pacov Highlands, Strážiště, the hills of Křemešník and Čeřínek, and in addition, they will have all of Humpolec at their fingertips," said Kučera. Tourists from the top of the tower will have a view of nearly 360 degrees.
The contractor will be the Třešť company Strojírny Podzimek. According to Kučera, costs will reach 2.5 million crowns without value-added tax. "We will manufacture the staircase with landings in our workshops, and we currently anticipate that it will consist of two parts. Installation will take place with the help of a truck crane during August on-site," said Karel Bambula, head of the company's technical department, to ČTK. The observation tower should be completed by September 30.
According to Ilona Ampapová from the Telč office of the National Heritage Institute, the construction is not in conflict with the interests of heritage conservation and will not damage the heritage values protected by the state.
People voted on the construction of the observation tower in a survey on the city’s website or using ballot slips in the information center. According to Kučera, nearly 1200 voters participated in the survey. "In the physical questionnaires, which are verifiable, there was an overwhelming majority of agreeing votes," the mayor previously stated.
The city has been trying to build the observation tower in the Orlík Castle area for several years, during which a comprehensive proposal for the conservation of this medieval ruin was developed. The possibility of establishing an observation point outside the castle area on Havlov Hill was also considered. However, it proved to be quite complicated due to property rights issues.
