Jihlava - The prestigious construction of the Vysočina region in 2014 became the reconstruction of the Valeč Castle in the Třebíč region. In the competition for the most successful new constructions in the region, this castle also received the most SMS votes from the public. The expert committee awarded three titles of Building of the Year for the Vysočina region, namely to the observation tower at the Orlík Castle near Humpolec, the Swoboda - Stamping plant in Jihlava, and the reconstruction of the community hall of the Jupiter Club in Velké Meziříčí. The results of the 13th annual Vysočina Building Competition were announced today in Jihlava. Martin Pertl, the regional manager of the organizing Union of Entrepreneurs in Construction in the Czech Republic, told ČTK that the number of 28 registered constructions was the second highest in the history of the competition. In the previous year, 19 construction projects were evaluated in the region. The Valeč Castle competed in the category of buildings for housing and accommodation. Experts appreciated the unprecedented scale and quality of the rescue of this historically valuable complex. The dilapidated Renaissance castle was transformed by a private owner into an area for hotel use. The observation tower at Orlík Castle took first place due to the successful combination of contemporary architecture and heritage, winning among buildings for sports and leisure. The 22-meter-high metal structure was embedded into the tooth of the once-damaged stone tower of the castle. The work was funded by the city of Humpolec. The Swoboda - Stamping plant in Jihlava was evaluated as the best among new administrative and industrial buildings in the Vysočina region. The expert committee appreciated the comprehensive solution and perfect processing of the building, including the interiors. The plant specializes in metal stamping and forming. The reconstruction of the Jupiter Club hall in Velké Meziříčí won among public amenity buildings. This municipal investment was praised for the successful transformation of an old gymnasium into a modern multifunctional cultural facility. Governor Jiří Běhounek awarded his prize to the reconstruction of the municipal office in Velká Losenice. Another seven buildings received honorable mentions. The competition is organized by the Vysočina Construction Association in cooperation with the Union of Entrepreneurs in Construction of the Czech Republic, the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians Active in Construction (ČKAIT), and the Vysočina Region.
