Brno - The people from the Brno district of Přízřenice are drafting a petition against the planned construction of a housing estate for 2100 residents. Vladimíra Holasová, one of the dissatisfied residents of the district, told ČTK today. The company REKO wants to build around 30 family homes and 30 apartment buildings on the outskirts of Přízřenice. According to its estimates, the project will cost 1.3 billion crowns. Locals point out that up to seven-story buildings will rise next to the current family homes. They can express their views on Tuesday at a public meeting discussing the proposal.

Přízřenice, which is located close to the D2 motorway and the Svratka River, is one of the southernmost parts of Brno. It is home to nearly a thousand people.
According to the plans, nearly thirty apartment buildings, some of which will be seven stories high, are to be built instead of fields on the outskirts of the district. "Everyone expects that construction will occur, but we do not agree with such tall buildings," added another dissatisfied local, Luděk Slaný. According to him, about twenty people have joined the protest so far.
The commercial director of REKO, Pavel Knapec, told ČTK that neither he nor his colleagues have been approached due to the disagreement with the construction. "Up to today, we have been contacted by representatives of citizens from Modřická Street, who were interested in connecting their already approved homes to the proposed sewage system. We assured them that the project documentation is prepared so that they can connect without problems," he stated.
According to him, the company does not want to cause problems for the locals. They have also devised the construction supply plan so that trucks do not pass through the built-up area of Přízřenice. REKO, which has previously participated in projects such as the construction in Medlánky in the northern part of Brno, already owns the necessary plots in Přízřenice. The land is designated for residential use in the zoning plan, added Mayor Josef Haluza. He claims to understand the negative response from the locals. "If you look from your house at a field, it is better than looking at another house and the neighbors in it," he noted.
