Prague – In the former Hotel Opatov, which the Prague City Hall is converting into a residential building, there should be a healthcare facility, social services, and retail spaces in addition to apartments in the future. This follows from the information about the meeting of the working group for the utilization of non-residential spaces in the building, which was received today by the Prague councilors. The City Hall started the reconstruction two years ago.

According to earlier statements from city officials, the building will provide housing for about 650 residents in 272 apartments upon completion of the work in the spring of next year, of which 68 will be one-room (1+kk) units, 152 will be two-room (2+kk) apartments, 35 will be three-room, and 17 will be four-room. In addition, there are also extensive non-residential spaces in the building, and the working group that was first convened at the end of November last year is responsible for the proposal of their utilization.

According to the document discussed today, the group members agreed that, in addition to housing, the city will establish public services for those in need in the building. "A relatively large rehabilitation facility, a day center, a general practitioner's office, and specialists’ offices will be created in the multifunctional building, as well as support for a home care service and, on the top floor, a beautiful seniors' club," states the document.

In the four commercial spaces intended for rent, services beneficial to residents, such as a hair salon, café, or grocery store, are expected to be provided. The working group will further address the issue of parking for future residents of the building.

The nearby former boarding house Sandra is also intended to serve similar purposes as Hotel Opatov in the future. The property has been owned and under reconstruction by Prague 11 since 2019. The building is set to include office spaces, a hall for cultural events or council meetings, a restaurant, and 174 new apartments. These are primarily meant for young families, seniors, teachers, doctors, firefighters, city police officers, or nurses.
