Prague - Prague plans to renovate the Opatov hotel in the South City. The estimated costs are 550 million crowns. In the building of the former hotel, 342 apartments will be created, which the city wants to rent to low-income people. Prague councilors today approved the announcement of a public tender, which still needs to be voted on by the representatives of the capital city.

The House for a New Beginning, as the renovation project is called, will be used for the accommodation of socially needy individuals, people with regular but low incomes. Prague will offer apartments to young families with small children, people with limited mobility, and seniors.

There will be 157 one-bedroom apartments. The largest portion will consist of 167 two-bedroom apartments, of which 31 will be designated for people with disabilities. The remaining apartments will be of the three-bedroom size. Larger apartments cannot be built due to the original architectural layout of the building.

In one of the low buildings, there will be a self-service laundry, barrier-free basement storage lockers, and space for a medical office or therapeutic services will be created here. The second building will offer spaces for a kitchen operation and for commercial use.

According to the material discussed by the councilors today, the complex of buildings is in a devastated state. The three interconnected buildings are made of prefabricated panels. All have one underground floor, one has 22 above-ground floors, the second has one, and the third has two.
