Tachov - The model of the planned twenty-five meter observation tower above Tachov will be presented for the first time by the Tachov city hall on Thursday in Brno at the international fair Regiontour. This year, the thirteen-thousand-strong city will have a project for a lookout built on the highest surrounding hill, Vysoká. The fourth largest city in the Plzeň Region currently lacks a tourist lookout, and both locals and visitors want one, said Mayor Ladislav Macák (ČSSD) to ČTK.
    From the lookout, which will be accessible year-round, it will be possible to see as far as Germany and all the surrounding hills of the Český Les. There are already 40 observation towers and lookouts in the Plzeň Region.
    "Next year there will be a building permit, and then it's a matter of money," the mayor stated. However, according to him, the construction should be completed no later than 2014 and should cost a maximum of three million crowns. The city is considering cooperation with one of the mobile operators.
    From several proposals from contacted designers, the city hall unanimously selected the Plzeň-based Architectural Studio Hysek, which has already designed the under-construction outdoor swimming pool with attractions in Tachov. The building will be made of galvanized steel to prevent vandalism. The unattended lookout will be accessible to the public free of charge and year-round.
    "Vysoká is the highest peak here, and there is also a city memorial of the Hussite battle near Tachov in 1427, which we also want to restore," Macák stated. In the past, there was a wooden observation point and chapel at the former pilgrimage site. The dominant feature of Tachov, the church in the square that belongs to the church, is not accessible to the public, so there is no place to look out over the countryside.
    People will be able to walk to the riding hall in Světce from the other side of the hill, where there is winter skiing and municipal forests, which has been a national cultural monument since the year before last. The city hall aims to restore the lookout trail on Vysoká.
    The only lookout in the vicinity is an older masonry lookout in Planá, 15 kilometers from Tachov. Another one could arise at the elevation of Havran, at 900 meters above sea level, where there is a metal structure. The former military observation point belongs to the army, which offered it to the microregion of Lučina.
