Ústí nad Labem – Construction of the Faculty of Health Studies (FZS) building at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně (UJEP) in Ústí nad Labem began today. The costs amount to 450 million crowns. The construction will be handed over to the academics in 26 months.

"The new FZS building is one of three constructions being carried out under the RE:START program aimed at the restructuring of the Ústí, Moravian-Silesian, and Karlovy Vary regions," said Rector Martin Balej.

The Faculty of Health Studies, in cooperation with Masaryk Hospital, has established a total of 12 joint clinics since 2008. Many doctors at the hospital are also academic staff at the faculty, which has accredited new study programs in recent years. "Together, we are gradually transitioning Masaryk Hospital to a university-type hospital," said the rector.

According to Balej, the relocation of the faculty will allow for further expansion of the study program offerings and an increase in the number of students. "The new faculty building right in the hospital complex, besides streamlining education and fostering closer contact between students and healthcare facilities, can further increase graduates' interest in working in regional hospitals," stated Vlasta Kašparová, Deputy for Human Resource Management at Krajská Zdravotní, under which the Ústí hospital falls.

The building will have four above-ground floors and one underground. The spaces will enable the hosting of large international conferences.
