Velké Meziříčí (Žďársko) - In Velké Meziříčí, there may be a new observation tower about 30 meters high. The local ski club has been planning a metal structure in the shape of a spiral on Fajtův kopec for several years, but it has not succeeded in obtaining funds for the implementation of the project, which is estimated to cost around ten million crowns. Now the city could take over the plan, which has a better chance of securing a grant. Councilors will decide on this in the middle of the month, said the mayor of the city, Radovan Necid. "We learned that the possibility of obtaining a European grant is real. That would mean that the grant would cover up to 85 percent of the costs, which would be manageable for the city budget," the mayor explained. An architectural study has already been prepared for the observation tower, and a building permit has been issued. If the city becomes the investor of this project and manages to secure European funds, according to Necid, the tower on Fajtův kopec could be completed within two years. The idea for building the observation tower came a few years ago from the ski club, which operates a sports complex on Fajtův kopec, with a ski slope in winter and a bike park in summer. The final design of the observation tower was selected by people through an online vote. The proposal by architect Václav Hlaváček won. There will also be a rental service for bikes, skis, and tricycles at the observation tower. The club does not oppose transferring the project to the city. "The city would be a stronger partner for grants and has far more experience with them than we do," said Jiří Pálka from the club. In the Vysočina region, one observation tower is currently being built with the support of the union, specifically in the Třebíč area. The tower, made of stone, metal, and wood, will be 31 meters high and is expected to be completed around the middle of summer on the Mařenka hill. Seven surrounding municipalities are jointly managing the project, which has total costs of around seven million crowns.
