Velké Losiny (Šumperk) - A new health complex with a multipurpose hall for athletes was ceremoniously opened today in Velké Losiny, in the Šumperk region. The construction of the complex, which will also serve for cultural and social events, cost approximately 35 million crowns, and Velké Losiny received a grant from European funds for the project.
According to the mayor of Velké Losiny, Norbert Pfeffer, a facility like this was missing in the municipality, which hosts famous spas. The residents of Velké Losiny and surrounding villages had only the school gym available, which was always occupied.
The construction of the health complex began in May 2012. The new hall has a seating capacity of 400, which is sufficient for hosting concerts, balls, and dance parties, according to the mayor. The playing area measures 707 m² and can accommodate sports like volleyball, tennis, footvolley, table tennis, or badminton, which is quickly gaining popularity among local residents, so the area has two courts marked, with plans to add more in the future.
Pfeffer noted that thanks to the new hall, the tradition of people coming from the wide surroundings to Velké Losiny for renowned balls and carnivals could be revived. Part of the new complex is a relaxation zone with a park, a restaurant, and a children's playground, which has been crowded for several days before the official opening. The relaxation zone includes rest areas and exercise equipment, not only for children but also for adults.
The health complex is not the only large investment in Velké Losiny. The spa company Royal Spa began construction of a large thermal park in the municipality last autumn, into which it is investing 130 million crowns with the help of European grants. Visitors are expected to take their first bath in the six pools filled with healing mineral water this summer.
