The trails near Svratka in Poříčí could be accessible at the turn of April and May

Brno - The Svratka river in the Brno street Poříčí is already bordered by constructed paths complemented by plantings and railings. The paths should be finished and accessible by the turn of April and May. The two-story building near the Rondo hall is also nearly finished. Construction workers continue modeling the bank and adjusting the riverbed. This was stated by the spokesman for the Brno city council, Filip Poňuchálek. The construction of flood protection measures in the section from Riviera through Poříčí to the railway viaduct in Uhelná street began in 2022. The completion date has been postponed several times, and the work was extended due to the floods in September last year.

An approximately 200-meter long and six-meter wide colonnade will be created at Poříčí. Workers are currently finishing sidewalks at the level of the first above-ground floor, where the railing and pergola are completed. Near the river, they are building outdoor stairs. "The construction workers are pouring the foundations, and will subsequently install prefabricated concrete steps and flower pots. The stone wall cladding and two rental units are finished," the spokesman said.

The construction of flood protection measures is also related to a large amount of work on engineering networks near the river, which is now nearly finished. The company has also demolished stone walls that prevented people from accessing the river. The banks have been adapted to hold more water during higher flow levels while also serving recreational purposes.

Workers are building additional paths along the river, modeling the banks, and adjusting the riverbed. Places for the installation of urban furniture such as benches, trash cans, and public lighting are also gradually being created. The terrain is being adjusted as well. The paths are expected to be completed by the turn of April and May. The remaining work will mainly involve modeling the riverbed. The construction is expected to cost 1.4 billion crowns excluding taxes.

The next section should be the flood protection in the Trnitá area, where measures on the Svratka and Svitava rivers are to be developed between 2026 and 2028. For these phases, the city has applied for building permits and is preparing project documentation for construction execution. If everything goes smoothly, work could start next year.
