Brno - Members of the political clubs of the Brno coalition should have the results of a public opinion survey available on Friday, which will reveal the residents' stance on the relocation of the train station. On Monday, experts will present the research findings, and subsequently, they will hold a debate about them, said Matěj Hollan for Žít Brno and Martin Ander for the Green Party to ČTK today.

According to the spokesperson of the magistrate Filip Poňuchálek, the councilors are set to discuss the results at the council meeting next Tuesday. The city council, which is to definitively express the preferred location for the station, will meet on February 27. The options include moving the station about a kilometer south to the site of the freight lower station or keeping the station in the center with a slight shift.

With the exception of the Christian Democrats, it is already clear which variant each political club supports. Žít Brno, the Pirates, and the Green Party want the station in the center, while the others favor a relocation. Some have stated this directly, while for others it can be inferred from the statements of politicians from those parties.

While Ander doubts that the public opinion survey could significantly change party opinions, Hollan believes that the results could have a substantial impact. However, Ander acknowledges that nothing has been decided yet, even though it currently seems that the relocation of the station has clear political support. "The goal is for us to agree on a unified interpretation of the research within the coalition. The result will not emerge simply. We also need to agree on what the term clear support for one of the variants means, and we will also find out how strongly people perceive the issue," said Hollan.

The coalition has a clause in the coalition agreement stating that it will support the option that has public support. "Either we resolve it, or we will argue with some consequences," said Hollan. Disagreements over the train station have been arising and continue to arise within the coalition for several weeks. Mayor Petr Vokřál (ANO) hopes that a split will not occur. "In my opinion, it would be a mistake. It’s normal that we don’t have the same opinion on everything and we will see how it develops," said Vokřál, who supports the relocated variant of the train station.
