Prague – The leadership of the Prague 11 municipality could discuss the future of the planned public swimming pool in about two weeks. It is to be built on a plot of land approximately 1.1 hectares in size on Mírového Hnutí Street, next to the current Eleven Water World swimming pool. It will include a parking garage with more than a hundred parking spaces. The mayor Jiří Dohnal mentioned this during an online press conference today. The municipality already has a feasibility study that indicates the swimming pool can be constructed. A specific project will be developed later.

The outdoor swimming pool is preliminarily designed for around 2000 visitors. There will be a 25-meter long pool with eight lanes for visitors. Additional water features, a slide, and small pools for young children will also be created. "There is space for wellness and other leisure activities as well. Ideally, the areas could be connected. In the summer, visitors would swim in the natural swimming pool, and in the winter in the adjacent pool," Dohnal said.

West of the current indoor pool, a parking lot for about 130 cars will be constructed. Currently, according to Dohnal, the municipality is considering a small parking garage intended for pool visitors.

The costs for constructing the outdoor swimming pool, including parking and a connecting walkway, are expected to rise to approximately 200 million crowns. However, the exact amount will only be clear after, among other things, the final project is created and the contractor selection process is completed.

When exactly the construction will start is unclear. In addition to the missing project, the mayor stated that the public lighting pole standing on the land still needs to be resolved. The municipality is currently working to have it relocated. "We can prepare the project in advance, but we must wait for the resolution of this condition (the relocation of the pole)," Dohnal said.

The construction plan has already been discussed by the municipal commissions and relevant committees. The office will now evaluate the results of the discussions, and the city council will likely review it in about two weeks after further discussion in the working group for the construction of the swimming pool.

The land was selected from about ten locations. The chosen site is in accordance with the urban planning and has the necessary infrastructure built. "There are other plots in Jižní Město, but they are not ours; we cannot work with plots that do not belong to us or that are contrary to the urban plan," Dohnal said.

The plan for the construction of the swimming pool has been criticized in recent months by the opposition Hnutí pro Prahu 11 (HPP11). They argue that the selected location is unsuitable and the plot is insufficient. HPP11 also disapproves of the location near Mírového Hnutí Road, where at least 15,000 vehicles, including trucks, pass daily according to their analysis.

In Jižní Město, there is a coalition of the Pirates, ANO, ODS, TOP 09, and STAN. The current council has stated in its program declaration for the period from 2019 to 2022 that it will explore the possibility of building an outdoor swimming pool in Jižní Město. The municipality includes the cadastral areas of Chodov and Háje. It is home to 77,600 residents.
