Třešť - Two million crowns will go this year towards the restoration of the parish church of St. Martin in Třešť, which is the oldest monument in the town. The largest share will be contributed by the state from the program for the Regeneration of Urban Heritage Zones. The town will provide over 400,000 crowns, Mayor Vladimír Nechvátal said today to ČTK. According to Pastor Tomáš Caha, the congregation has raised about half a million crowns for repairs over the past three years.

The repairs of the St. Martin church, which was founded in the 13th century, began five years ago with the reconstruction of the supporting walls and staircase leading to the church on the hill. The structure itself was first insulated to prevent moisture damage, and then it received a new roof. Since last year, the tower has a new façade. Now the entire building will receive one. There hasn’t been time yet to restore the monuments in the interior. However, due to woodworms that attacked the pews, pulpit, and new organ, the church was 'gasified' for the second time, the pastor summarized.
The proceeds from Friday’s benefit will also go towards giving the monument, which features a Gothic tombstone of Jan z Hodic, a Renaissance tombstone of Kryštof Vencelík, and a late Gothic pulpit, a new face. At 19:00, there will be a concert by the choir Musica Sacra in the church as part of the 13th year of the Festival of Sacred Music.
Four years ago, the church of St. Catherine was restored, which also received two new bells from donations. The ossuary, the rectory, and its outbuildings have already received new roofs and plastering. The parish courtyard, which is used by the youth, was also maintained. The congregation has also restored the Stations of the Cross above the town.
