Třebíč - The windmill in Třebíč, which has been a technical monument since 1958, will receive a new shingle roof. The current covering is in a state of emergency, and partial repairs are also needed for some of the rafters. According to councilor Pavel Heřman ("TR election"), work is expected to begin in the coming days, with completion anticipated during the summer holidays.

The roof, covering an area of approximately 60 square meters, will be shingled with two layers. The city will pay over 430,000 crowns for the reconstruction. At the same time, a historical architectural survey of the entire building is taking place, the results of which, according to Heřman, should indicate what the further use of the monument will be.

The mill building is made of stone and brick masonry. The tower, shaped like a truncated cone, has a diameter of eight meters. Its current appearance is not original but corresponds to the form from the 19th century. The mill was completed in 1836 by brothers Karel and František Budischowski. There are no plans from that time. "It never ground grain, but it served to grind bark into tannin for tanneries in Borovina," Heřman previously stated. In 1890, the mill was assigned an identification number and was registered as a residential building for workers.

Since 1929, the mill has been owned by the city, which had it repaired three years later. Three apartments were created there, one on each floor, where people lived until 1977. Later, the town hall decided to reconstruct the mill and installed a turbine, known as wings, which, according to Heřman, do not correspond in shape or size to the spirit of the building. Since then, the mill has been slowly deteriorating and is not being used. Since 1958, it has been listed as a technical monument.

According to Heřman, people are interested in the use of the mill. "It could potentially be developed into a café or gallery, and there is also the possibility of occasional housing," Heřman believes. The mill could be in an acceptable condition within two years, according to the councilor. Costs are estimated at around three million crowns.
