The city of Český Brod announced an open selection procedure for the position of city architect. The establishment of this position was decided by the city council in February. The city architect will work as a consultant to the municipality in the fields of architecture, urban planning, and public space creation within the scope of the municipality's independent activities. He is expected to assist in the preparation of conceptual documents, in the preparation and implementation of investments, in organizing architectural competitions, or in proposing modifications to public spaces. His activities will cover the area of the city and its local parts. The city expects that the selected architect will be present at the town hall for about two days each month. Other consultations will primarily take place electronically.

“We are very keen on establishing the position of architect. It is included in the council's program declaration and is one of the goals of the strategic plan. We want to find a quality expert who will oversee the architectural qualities of the city's development projects and help us improve the environment in the city”, says Deputy Mayor Tomáš Klinecký. “The city architect will not have decision-making powers but will be a strong partner to the local government. He must also be able to communicate excellently with the public. A benefit for the city could be someone who brings inspiration from the outside, but we are also open to collaborating with local architects”, adds municipal office secretary Aleš Kašpar. “However, a condition is that the selected candidate does not carry out contracts in the city, neither for the city nor for other entities, thus avoiding a conflict of interest”, added Deputy Mayor Klinecký.

The selection of the city architect will take place in a two-round competition. In the first round, which will close on May 25, written offers will be assessed, including qualification prerequisites and references, and in the second round, personal interviews will be conducted with finalists who will prepare examples of good practices applicable to Český Brod for the interview. The second round will take place on June 13. The selection committee will include prominent personalities from the field, such as architect Zdeňka Vydrová, architect of the city of Litomyšl, and architect Petr Klápště from the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT. The committee will be supplemented by representatives of the city leadership.
