"David Vávra often visited Kolín, he likes it, and as an architect, he does not succumb to the trends of immediate appeal," says Mayor Vít Rakušan.
Kolín - Kolín wants to open a city gallery this year, which has long been lacking in the city. It will be created in the theater in the former rehearsal room according to the design of architect David Vávra. It could exhibit works, for example, from the Impressionist landscape painter and Kolín native Václav Radimský (1867 to 1946). The costs for building the gallery are 2.5 million crowns, said Deputy Mayor Jan Pospíšil (TOP 09). "The lighting alone in the gallery will cost 400,000 crowns. This price surprised us a bit, but the gallery simply requires it. And it's a city gallery, so it should have some quality," he noted. According to the city hall, the spaces of the former rehearsal room will be easy to convert into a gallery. The city has already selected a contractor who will carry out the construction modifications. The work is expected to be completed at the turn of November and December. In the future, an elevator should also be added to the theater to make the gallery accessible. It would be placed in a glass tube so that visitors could look out at the city. "We are waiting for a suitable grant," said the deputy mayor. Vávra, whom most people know from the theater Sklep, films, and television sketches, has a broad range as an architect - from restaurant and bar interiors to new family house constructions and larger building renovations. Recently, he designed, for example, the unrealized reconstruction of the Kladno theater or the library of the city of Hradec Králové, which is being created through the conversion of the Vertex factory. He is also behind the study of the planned reconstruction of the Kutná Hora brewery that was left by Heineken. "David Vávra often visited Kolín, he likes it, and as an architect, he does not succumb to the trends of immediate appeal," says Mayor Vít Rakušan (Change for Kolín). He reminded that Vávra also dealt with Kolín architecture in his television show Šumná města.
