Czech Brod has a new city architect

Based on the recommendation of the selection committee, of which Zdeňka Vydrová, the architect of the city of Litomyšl, was a member, and with the consent of the City Council, Ing. arch. Jiří Pavlíček, PhD. (37) was appointed as the city architect of Český Brod effective July 24, 2017. A graduate of the Prague Faculty of Architecture with several international experiences, including work at Norman Foster's office, he is currently a lecturer and one of the two partners of the atelier Pavlíček Hulín architekti. The jury was most impressed by his expertise as well as his ability to take a practical approach in the context of current legislation and his systematic reasoning in context.

The city architect will work as an external consultant to the town hall in the areas of architecture, urbanism, and public space creation within the independent activities of the municipality. He will assist in developing the municipality's positions on planned construction projects as well as in preparing the city’s own investments. He will also be able to propose various smaller modifications to public spaces. The first tasks entrusted to architect Pavlíček by the city leadership include organizing the selection of architectural designs for the construction of the Kollárova Kindergarten, completing the standards for urban furniture, and proposing a traffic solution for the Škvárovna locality in connection with the repair of part of Pod Velkým Vrchem street. In addition to the architect's regular presence at the office, we expect a public lecture in the fall as well as other events.

From the very first day, it is evident that there are many tasks, and regular operations will require numerous additional opportunities for the city architect to be involved in the functioning of the city. Architect Pavlíček has immediately taken on his responsibilities, and the first outputs are already available. The city leadership believes that the city architect will bring a new perspective, assist the city with professional arguments, for instance in building proceedings where the municipality is a participant, and contribute to the overall improvement of the environment in the city.
