Vyškov - Vyškov will have the former gardener's house in the castle garden repaired for 20.6 million crowns. It will be turned into a café with an outdoor terrace. The city will offer the space for rent. The municipality announced this on its website. Vyškov has been revitalizing the castle garden since last autumn. The work will cost 49.6 million crowns and is expected to be completed in the summer.
The renovation of the dilapidated gardener's house aims, among other things, to create a fully functional sanitary facility for visitors to the garden; therefore, the basic requirement of the project is to build public restrooms. Separate facilities for performers will also be created. "The key element of the interior will be the long-discussed café with an outdoor summer terrace. This will make the entire area even more attractive. The café will offer a space for relaxation and refreshments and will naturally enliven the garden area,” stated Deputy Mayor Roman Celý (KDU-ČSL).
The city handed over the construction site to the contractor in mid-February. The renovated spaces will be offered for rent by the municipality. When selecting the café operator, the council said that the amount of rent would not be the only deciding criterion, but also the overall concept of operation and the way the space is utilized in connection with the character of the garden.
"It is essential to carefully clarify a number of operational questions regarding the future functioning of the facility, such as the cooperation of the café with social and cultural events that will take place in the area in the future. Of course, we will begin searching for a suitable tenant even during the construction work,” Celý stated.
The renovated castle garden is expected to offer the public a modern relaxation zone near the city center, corresponding to the historical significance of the site. The architects were partially inspired by the preserved plan of Alžběta Birnbaumová, which was redrawn from a now-missing original from the 18th century, and the similarities between the Vyškov garden and the principles of the Paris garden Jardin des Tuileries. The local public park, visible from the Louvre, is much larger, offers a variety of activities for the whole family, and experienced a boom in a similar historical period as the Vyškov garden.
