Vysoké Mýto - Vysoké Mýto wants to demolish the mourning hall and build a new one next to it. The existing building is already in poor condition and it is not worth repairing, said the Deputy Mayor Martin Krejza (ODS) to ČTK. A parking lot should be created on the site of the current building.
"We are considering whether to announce a competition or directly approach architectural studios to come up with a design," Krejza stated.
According to him, the new mourning hall should be a simple and airy structure, but it will still cost an estimated several tens of millions of crowns. Next year, the city wants to use it to prepare project documentation and construction preparations, with construction possibly starting in 2020.
The mourning hall has been long-term rented by the local funeral service. The city also wants to rent the new one to other entities.
The current building began construction 31 years ago as part of the "Akce Z" initiative, that is, using the "voluntary" work of residents. However, due to a lack of funds, construction was interrupted while it was at a relatively advanced stage. It was completed in the mid-1990s.
