Karlovy Vary – The proceeds from the sale of the former Trocnov sanatorium are intended to be kept in reserve by the leadership of Karlovy Vary and tied to specific investments. This was stated by Mayor Andrea Pfeffer Ferklová to ČTK. The city will receive 58.8 million Czech crowns for the hotel in the spa area. The sale was also approved by the councilors in their last meeting. One of the opposition's objections was the concern that the funds obtained this way would dissolve into the city's operating expenses, which is currently facing an increase in expenditures mainly due to energy prices.

"We do not yet have a specific project selected, but we anticipate utilizing the funds for cooperative housing, for example. The point is that we want to use the finances obtained from the sale of the Trocnov hotel meaningfully for investment projects in our city," said Pfeffer Ferklová.

The sale of the former spa sanatorium Trocnov has been debated in Karlovy Vary for several years. According to the current city leadership, the building would require costly investments to serve as a hotel again. Just maintaining the unused building costs the city hundreds of thousands of crowns.

The opposition, particularly the Pirates, opposed the sale, arguing that the hotel is not in such a poor condition that investments in repairs and further leasing wouldn't be worthwhile. They also suggested waiting for the sale until the real estate market develops further and prices rise.

According to the mayor, however, the hotel, due to its capacity of up to 45 guests, is mainly suitable as a dependence (secondary building of the accommodation facility) for neighboring hotels. The operator of the neighboring hotel then submitted the only offer for the purchase. The final price thus remained at the starting bid of 58 million crowns. Meanwhile, the internal equipment of the hotel was valued at an additional 800,000 crowns.
