Prague - A large exhibition of design and fashion, Designblok, started today in Prague. This year's 12th edition is set for three Prague zones - Holešovice, Karlín, and Old Town. All three districts are connected by the Vltava River, and water has become the key theme of this year's Designblok. The theme of water is also reflected in the poster featuring a girl in a swimsuit, created by photographer Salim Issa, a recipient of the Czech Grand Design awards for photography. Water - the Vltava is also the main landmark of the exhibition. The center of exhibitions and accompanying programs has become the former Palace of Electrical Enterprises in Bubenská Street near the Vltavská metro station. The building from the 1930s offers over 6,000 square meters of space intended for the presentation of companies, fashion designers, schools, and institutions. It will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and on Sundays until 7:00 PM. For example, on Thursday at 5:00 PM, the newly established Institute of Industrial Design of the Faculty of Architecture at CTU will be presented in the palace at Vltavská. An hour later, there will be a lecture by architect Aleš Brotánek on passive houses and ecological buildings. The lecture is organized by Hnutí Duha, which is also preparing a talk by Lucie Kliegrová about ecological clothing for Wednesday. At Designblok, fashion designers Klára Nademlýnská, Liběna Rochová, and Iška Fišárková will present their work, along with Czech manufacturers such as Botas, chandelier manufacturer Preciosa, and watchmaker Prim. Companies like Kartell, Konsepti, Vitra, and others will showcase their furniture and interior design collections.
