Brno - The Greens of South Moravia and civic organizations are collecting signatures for a petition against the planned completion of the R52 expressway. In the future, it is supposed to connect Brno with Vienna. During the first few days, nearly 100 people have already signed the petition. At the end of August, the authors will send it to the South Moravian governor and the transport minister. The regional leadership will address the petition, but a change is not expected. There have been long-standing disputes about the route connecting to Vienna. The Greens and civic associations advocate using the available capacity of the current D2 highway to Břeclav, from where a new road should be built along the route of the planned bypass of the city to the Austrian border. The Ministry of Transport plans the completion of the R52 from Pohořelice to the state border near Mikulov. A four-lane road would thus run directly between the vineyards under Pálava. Moreover, trucks traveling to Vienna from Poland through Otrokovice and Hodonín will pass through the Lednice-Valtice area from Břeclav to Mikulov, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the petition's authors point out. According to regional representatives, the Ministry of the Environment and neighboring Austria also agree with the planned route. "The only thing they will achieve in such a way is further delaying the resolution of the problematic traffic situation," said councilor Anna Procházková (ODS) to ČTK today. Further assessments will similarly show that another route is unrealistic, she believes. The planned completion is part of the Master Plan for the large territorial unit of Břeclavsko, the public discussion of which is currently being completed according to the councilor. The council could address it at the September meeting. Opponents have already turned to the ombudsman with a request to investigate the officials' procedures in creating and evaluating this document. They previously complained to the Ministry for Regional Development. However, its staff concluded that the officials acted according to the law.
