Zlín - The Zlín Region is preparing to launch a publicly accessible digital technical map. It will serve to share detailed information about construction and technical objects and facilities. Cities and municipalities, builders, or components of the Integrated Rescue System will utilize it. This was stated today in a press release by Jan Vandík from the regional communication and external relations department. The regional authority plans to gradually launch the digital map services in the spring.
Digital technical maps are being prepared in collaboration with authorities based on the amendment to the surveying law, with other regions of the Czech Republic. The map consists of the basic spatial situation, which is a detailed topographical survey, and transport and technical infrastructure, that is, engineering networks. "Most of the data will be published through a map client or viewing services, or the data will be available for download," Vandík stated.
The start of the functioning of digital technical maps in the regions is, according to representatives of the Zlín Region, a revolution in the field, and municipalities have an irreplaceable role in it. "By law, they are obliged to provide data about their transport and technical infrastructure, but at the same time, they are one of the main users of the digital technical map, which they can use for construction and project preparation, asset registration, or urban planning," Vandík stated.
By the end of March, the operation of the current unified digital technical map of the Zlín Region is expected to cease, and the services of the subsequent digital technical map will be gradually launched. "The transition will not be simple; the changes in data acquisition, transfer, and provision are significant, but it is the price for a big leap in data quality and content. After the digital technical map is filled, all transport and technical infrastructure networks will be in one place, resulting in a detailed mapping work that will be publicly accessible and continuously updated, always with a guarantee of quality and data sources," stated regional councilor Jiří Jaroš (Pirates).
The Zlín Region holds seminars and so-called webinars for representatives of cities and municipalities, with topics focused on the digital technical map. "Thanks to its long-standing experience, the Zlín Region is a pioneer in this area," stated Jaroš. Among other things, he mentioned that the region also leads a national methodological working group addressing the acquisition, control, and management of data for the digital technical map. If there is interest, the Zlín Region, according to the councilor, is ready to organize further educational seminars for municipalities and provide them with methodological assistance and support.
