Znojmo - The Znojmo city hall is seeking to find a use for the former Hostan brewery site, which is located in the city center and is a cultural monument. It has already developed a study. It wants to discuss it with residents next year, said the city hall spokesperson Renáta Bártová today to ČTK.

According to her, there are several options for using the site. "The city does not rule out that a smaller hotel could be built on the site, or perhaps even a small brewery. However, we need the exclusive consent of Heineken, which sold the brewery to the city with certain conditions," said Bártová.
According to her, the concept of the territorial study prepared by architect Jaroslav Poláček also considers uses for exhibition spaces, sports, and entertainment. "For example, there could be a brewery museum on site," said Bártová. The region has no similar recognition of the history of this field. There is a small exhibit at the still-functioning brewery in Dalešice in the Vysočina region.
The city has calculated the costs for the repairs of the brewery buildings, including the access road and Hradní Street, which connects the site towards the rotunda of Saint Catherine, which is probably the most significant monument in the city. Repairs would cost approximately 530 million crowns.
However, the city, which is heavily indebted, does not have these funds. "We are not opposed to a private investor. However, we want to have control over what will happen with the site," Bártová stated.
The city bought the Hostan site last year. The city hall paid the brewery group Heineken 26 million crowns for it. The transfer was complicated by an execution on the brewery's property, causing several weeks of delay. The Hostan site is very valuable. This year, the Ministry of Culture declared it a cultural monument. According to experts, the equipment of some buildings is also very valuable. In particular, it concerns the technical equipment of the brew house, which was produced in the 1930s at the Škoda factory.
Beer has been brewed at the Hostan site since 1720. Heineken ended production two years ago and permanently relocated it to Brno.
