Znojmo - A part of the former Znojmo brewery Hostan now serves for tastings and promotion of another traditional beverage - wine. The wine company Vinotrh from the Lahofer group opened a wine tasting room for Znojmo wines in collaboration with the Znojmo city hall on Thursday, featuring a self-service system. The establishment of the tasting room cost 13 million crowns, of which six million covered the renovation of the space and seven million the equipment and interior furnishings.
The former brewery underwent reconstruction, allowing visitors to take advantage of its advantageous location in the forecourt of Znojmo Castle with a view of the city.
"Part of the repairs included the demolition of a modern wall between the brewery and the southern access road, which opened up a new, fascinating view of the historic city center," said the firm's director Petr Chaloupecký.
The architectural solution for the tasting room was handled by the Brno office Krystof+Chybik. The tasting room offers a year-round tasting room with 120 wine samples exclusively from the Znojmo wine subregion. According to the owner, it is the largest tasting space that offers machines with a "by the glass" system.
"The self-service system offers a choice of three options for tasting amounts at three price levels. Visitors will also be able to purchase wine by the bottle here, at the same price as in the cellar of the specific winemaker," explained Petra Pokorná from Vinotrh. The tasting room features wines from 29 wineries in the Znojmo region.
The establishment of the tasting room is another step towards revitalizing the area of the former Hostan brewery in the Znojmo sub-castle. "It is a long-distance run, and we are succeeding thanks to private investors. I am pleased that we have made progress with the investor, and Znojmo now has another jewel in a historically significant location, and above all, that another building of the former brewery is being used meaningfully. The next step is to develop the public space in the area, which is being worked on intensively," stated the mayor of Znojmo, Jan Grois (ČSSD).
Part of the area is home to the Znojmo City Brewery, and another building serves as an exhibition space for brewing.
