The lecture series on architecture and society in Pilsen will conclude with a part about the year 1989.

The final part of the lecture series on architecture and society in Pilsen during a time of significant changes in social organization over the past century will take place at the building of the current Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Historian Jana Petrová and architect Jan Soukup will provide insight into the period around 1989.

Jana Petrová, author of the book The Forgotten Generation of the 1980s, will dedicate her lecture primarily to the civic activities that groups of independent-minded individuals engaged in during this time in Pilsen. She will supplement this with a broader social context of the late 1980s and a description of the events of 1989 in Pilsen.

Jan Soukup, founder of the local studio Soukup Opl Švehla, will speak about the transformation of the role of architects and architecture in Pilsen in the pivotal year of 1989 and beyond, as he personally experienced it. He will also discuss the environment of housing development, which was a dominant part of project planning before November.

The admission fee for the lecture is 50 CZK, and tickets will be available on-site and in pre-sale.

Through this series of four lectures, the association Pěstuj prostor aims to support and develop interest among local professionals and the broader public in architecture and the built and landscape environment of the city. The cycle is prepared by architect and architectural historian Petr Klíma in cooperation with other members of the Pěstuj prostor association with the support of the city of Pilsen, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Czech Architecture Foundation, and the State Culture Fund.
