This is already the third part of the spring lecture and discussion series "Smart City," prepared for interested members of the public by the Pěstuj prostor association, which will focus on innovative projects in the field of energy and the environment that are being developed with the goal of directing towards a climate-satisfactory and sustainable urban environment and life within it. The lecture, followed by a discussion, will take place on April 26 at 6 PM in the creative zone DEPO2015 on Presslova Street in Plzeň. Modern cities are among the largest consumers of energy. If we want to help address global threats such as resource depletion or climate change, it is necessary to think about changes in existing energy management. Such considerations have led to the emergence of "a vision of a decentralized network of thousands of small photovoltaic power plants located on the rooftops of Prague's buildings". What has been achieved in four years, where problems have arisen, and what is the outlook for the Prague Renewable Energy Community? That will be discussed by the director of the community, Jaroslav Klusák. The second project will be presented by the editor-in-chief of the magazine City:one, David Bárta. He is also the author of the urban laboratory in Žilina, which he describes as: "I designed the urban laboratory as a playground for everyone who wants to learn something about their city, new technologies, and maybe even decide on their future profession in the digital economy." In addition to traffic geofencing, the activities of the urban laboratory focus on the climatic conditions of the city and data collection for responsible development and public space modifications. The admission fee for the event is 60 CZK. Tickets will be available on-site and in the presale.
The final part of the Smart City series, prepared with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the city of Plzeň, and the Czech Architecture Foundation, will take place in May 2023 once again in the space of DEPO2015. It will focus on the collection, analysis, interpretation, and especially the publication of various relevant data.
