OSAMU OKAMURA:
Architecture as a Public Matter
Czech architecture and urban planning are still unable to break free from the isolation of expert discourse. Who owns the city today? How to spread awareness of the values of well-crafted built environments?
Osamu Okamura (*1973, Tokyo) studied both architecture (CTU in Prague, Alena Šrámková) and fine arts (AVU in Prague, conceptual creation in Miloš Šejn's studio). He is an independent nominator for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award for the Czech Republic. He serves as the editor-in-chief of the professional architectural magazine Era 21, which focuses on the presentation of architecture in relation to social, cultural, economic, and political contexts. Osamu Okamura is also engaged in socio-ecological projects and site-specific art.
