“Don't be afraid to slip through their work and feel its silky and strange texture that both frightens and caresses you.”
...Experimental architecture is shifting towards a new instrumental corpus, composed of tools, computational technology, mechanization, but equally consists of fictions and lines of subjectivity that blend with our symptoms; from fears and escapes that are here with us “here and now.” The aim of this retrospective of the years 1993 – 2050 is to explore approaches that correlate through their discrepancies and interrelations, being co-dependent on the forms they themselves support. It will find a post-digital, post-humanist, post-activist, post-democratic, post-feminist world, ... queer, androgynous, animalistic, unsettling, disenchanted, pornographic, transitional, transactional world, ... where scenarios, mechanisms, misunderstandings, and psychological and physiological fragments represent the building material for walls and ceilings, basements and attics, ... schizoid and paranoid, between the lines of operative and critical fictions... Androgynous folds and corners behind which... he/she / they ... hides/hide, bring confusion and body response, suspected hatred, fantastic idealization, and even pre-prepared forgetfulness. Paradoxical approaches and aesthetic mechanisms must be employed to highlight bio-political challenges, potentialities, and disorders of contemporary technologies, from their initial phases to their sale, and we must suspect them of being far from harmless, as they may seem, and track them further, beyond conventional discourses and self-centered aesthetics...
He/She believes that architectural identity emerges from principles of uncertainty, defined by provisional processes and forms, within which animism, vitalism, and mechanism become carriers of dynamic mutations.
He/She critically expresses through experiments that alchemically connect Eros and Thanatos to create deliberately ambiguous situations and that link seemingly disparate realities to contemporary technologies.
Synthetic tools calculate possibilities somewhere between attraction and aversion, simultaneously linking obstacles and opportunities, waste material and bloom, threats and sanctuaries, mechanical possibilities and natural elements. Here, everything is interconnected and knotted, in a process of becoming, in the movement of creation.
The works are interconnected by four temporal relationships: Here & Now / Fragile architecture that negotiates with the arrow of time, with transition, with what appears to exist. Here & Tomorrow / Operative and fictive architecture that attempts to reenact the relationship to the situation, with the environment (as a principle of reality). Elsewhere & Simultaneously / Speculative architecture that engages with tools lying between robotics, mathematics, neurobiology, and biochemistry (the latest research “I've heard” & “mood architecture”). Daily Psycho Routine / Anthropo-technical examination of human pathology and exhibitionism, through “machinic” and cinematic production, for a series titled MaythomaniaS (BKK)
New-territories is a polymorphic architectural organization, founded in 1993. It has adopted various names, labels, strategies, and intentions. New-territories is represented by an androgynous avatar, a trans-gender avatar, _O/na_, who enabled François Roch to write, speak, and teach under that name, as OS / personal secretary, as Ariadne's thread of this ectoplasmic system and paranoid mind. New-territories emerged from the intersection of many connecting points, from friendship and discord, from the cavity of sympathy, empathy, antipathy ... New-territories strives to articulate authenticity and/or fiction, geographical situations and narrative structures that can reshape them through robotic and human technology, physiologically and psychologically. They have exhibited, among others, at the Center Pompidou, SF Moma, Tate Modern, Barbican London, CCA Montreal,... selected eight times for the Venice Biennial, in the national and international pavilion, including the last exhibition at the Chicago Biennial 2015, Istanbul Biennial 2016, and a major solo exhibition: “s/he would rather do FICTION MAKer,” Frac Centre, France.
