We warmly invite you to a lecture by Jakub Klaška, who works at the studio Zaha Hadid Architects in London and teaches in the master's program at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London and is also a visiting lecturer at the University of East London.
The academic research project titled "Unit 14" is based on Buckminster Fuller's ideal of the "Comprehensive Designer," a master-builder who follows Renaissance principles and a holistic approach. Fuller described this ideal of a designer as someone who is capable of understanding the "integratable significance" of specialized findings and can realize and coordinate the potentials of the community of these discoveries without getting lost in a professional career. Like Fuller, we are opportunists in seeking new ideas and their advantages through architectural synthesis.
Unit 14, as such, is a testing ground for exploration and innovation, examining the role of the architect in an environment of constant change. We seek new technologies, workflows, and methods of production that we see in disciplines beyond our own. Our work evolves around technological speculations with a core focus on research and creates momentum through dynamic synthesis. Our designs are ultimately developed through building design and careful consideration of structural formation and tectonic elements.
This, combined with a strong research ethos, creates new and unprecedented, viable, and grand designs. They are beautiful because of their intelligence - extraordinary discoveries and their refined integration into architecture.
