cordially invite you to a professional colloquium
Sial
In the history of Czech architecture in the second half of the 20th century, Liberec's Sial wrote the most famous chapter. Thanks to Karel Hubáček and other architects and engineers of this group, the focus of domestic creation shifted from large centers to the periphery of the Czech lands. Despite difficult political conditions, Sial managed to maintain an atmosphere of creativity and did not lose contact with current architecture in the world. Sial left behind outstanding buildings, led by the tower on Ještěd, and even more remarkable but unrealized designs. An exhibition that follows the Olomouc premiere is organized by the Regional Gallery in Liberec, presenting a selection of these designs, and a large collective publication "Sial" from 2010 attempted to provide an overview and historical evaluation of them. However, the debate about the legacy of the Liberec association does not end with the exhibition and the book. The relationship between man, technology, and nature - probably key for Sial - the ratio of its creation to the domestic and foreign scenes, the theoretical thinking of Liberec architects, Sial’s buildings in the context of the landscape and cities, their current heritage protection, and the significance of the Liberec association for today; all these are questions on which it is hard to ever have a final word. We will find them among the topics of the colloquium on the history of Sial, which will involve two dozen Czech and Slovak historians of modern architecture.
