Finnish modern architecture co-creates the image of a young state and nation in Northern Europe. With a specific approach to modernism and its own national tradition, Finnish culture sought to strengthen the distinctiveness and independence of Finns from neighboring powers. Through a poetic connection of modern technologies with open spaces and a specific treatment of traditional materials - primarily wood, but also stone and the incorporation of water - typical of the Finnish landscape, a remarkable synthesis has emerged, expressed in the work of a number of Finnish architects. The first part of the lecture will focus on modern Finnish architecture of the 20th century from Art Nouveau to the late international style and will present Finnish heritage preservation of modern architectural heritage based on the author's personal experience.
