Three years after its closure, the Hraničář cinema will come alive with an evening inspired by Japan. On Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 PM, nine Czech personalities and artists will take the stage in rapid succession during the next PechaKucha Night - Art, design, architecture, and life in a 20x20 format.
What is composer and visual artist Vladimír Franz working on, how does illustrator Alois Nebel see Kafka's The Castle, or how was the project of street pianos by Ondřej Kobza born? At PechaKucha Night in Ústí nad Labem, the director of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award Lenka Lindaurová, designer Jan Čapek, photographer Tomáš Tesař, actress and musician Johana Švarcová, journalist and head of the cultural section of Czech Television Petr Vizina, and Ústí archivist Petr Karlíček will also present their projects. Artists have only twenty images and twenty seconds for each during their presentations in the PechaKucha format.
The Ústí PechaKucha is taking place for the eighth time, but for the first time in the Hraničář cinema. It is coming to life after more than three years since its closure. “The unique cinema space has an amazing atmosphere, and we would like to awaken it to life, even if just for one evening. At the same time, we want to give visitors a chance to express themselves in a survey about how they see the future of Hraničář. The cinema's landlord has already been accommodating once, so perhaps we will succeed in building on that,” says one of the evening's organizers, Tomáš Petermann from the Kompot association.
The concept of PechaKucha Night originated in 2003 in Tokyo as an idea from the architectural studio Dytham Klein Architecture, which wanted to provide space for talents to present their work. The meetings were very well received, and since then the 20x20 format has spread to around 700 cities worldwide. In the Czech Republic, it takes place in cities like Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Znojmo, and Ústí nad Labem.
