The ninth Ústí PechaKucha Night is moving to the other bank after a successful evening in October, when over 370 people visited the long-closed premises of the Hraničář cinema. As part of the Sudety Festival, a dozen prominent personalities will showcase themselves on Monday, November 11, 2013, at 7 PM in the Činoherní studio. This time, the theme is Socialist Realism in all its forms, contexts, and circumstances. Visual artist Pavel Karous will guide us through dictatorship in art, Ústí historian Martin Krsek will show us piece by piece the mosaic at the Ústí City Hall, compared to its larger and more colorful Berlin counterpart, and representatives from the Brno center for architecture 4AM will present socialist monuments in Eastern Europe. There will also be illustrations from the 1950s, a fascination with panel housing estates, and much more. The format of 20 images in 20 seconds poses no obstacles for any of the presenters. This will surely be demonstrated by the very honored guest of evening number nine. The already 85-year-old architect Václav Krejčí will compare his two most significant works – the new town of Most and the Ústí housing estate Severní Terasa. The PechaKucha Night concept originated in 2003 in Tokyo as an idea from the architectural studio Dytham Klein Architecture, which aimed to provide a platform for talents to present their work. The meeting received a great response, and since then, the 20x20 format has spread to around 700 cities worldwide. In the Czech Republic, it is held in cities such as Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Znojmo, and Ústí nad Labem.
