The Faculty of Art and Architecture warmly invites you to a guest public lecture by Dominik Lang. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 5:00 PM in lecture hall F12, block F2, Husova 75, Liberec.
Dominik Lang (* 1980) is a Czech artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (in the studios of Jindřich Zeithamml, Veronika Bromová, and Jiří Příhoda). At UMPRUM, he attended Jiří David's Studio of Intermedial Confrontation. He has completed several foreign internships and scholarship stays, including at the Copper Union in New York.
In his installations, he reconsiders the modernist tradition and combines it with contemporary methods of presentation. He focuses on institutional frameworks and the practical aspects of gallery operations, which he critically reflects upon. Key moments in his work include fragmentation, readymades, and their contextualization through various forms of exhibitions and exhibition architecture. Thus, he does not only exhibit artworks but also pays attention to their spatial contexts, and the very way of displaying them becomes part of the game.
Between 2008 and 2011, he served as an assistant in the Studio of the visiting professor at AVU, and since 2011, he has been the head of the Sculpture Studio at UMPRUM. In 2006, he worked as an assistant in Ai Weiwei's studio in Beijing. In an international context, he presented his work at the Expanded Anxiety exhibition at the Vienna Secession Pavilion or with his installation Sleeping City at the 54th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art. In 2013, he won the prestigious Jindřich Chaloupecký Award.
