The Civic Association For a Beautiful Olomouc, in collaboration with the Museum of Art Olomouc, invites you to a lecture
Rostislav Švácha Prize of the Club For Old Prague Six editions of the competition for the best new building in a historical environment, 2003–2009
which will be presented
in the Mozarteum hall of the Archbishopric Museum Olomouc on Wednesday, May 6 at 7:00 PM
After 1989, many new buildings penetrated into the environments of historical towns and villages in the Czech Republic. A critical assessment and the establishment of rules for them was attempted by the book by Karel Kuča, Věra Kučová, and Karel Kibic, "New Buildings in Historical Protected Settlements" from 2004, but it sadly failed in this regard. The Prize of the Club For Old Prague for a new building in a historical environment, to be awarded this year for the sixth time, aims for a similar evaluation and strives for a more objective result. However, it is shown that formulating any objective criteria for such a new building is not easy at all. The lecture will provide commentary on the laureates of the Club’s Prize (on the works of M. Sborwitz, J. Cigler, J. Pawson, B. Rossi, P. Kokeš-M. Medlík) and will explain why other buildings did not receive the prize.
